TELUS Science Center Case Study
Challenge
TELUS Spark is Canada’s newest science center that offers a place for people of all ages and abilities to let go and embrace the desire to explore and discover science, technology and art in a way that their normal day-to-day life doesn’t allow for. It’s a place to experiment and to play, with freedom and without consequence.
The irrigation system is supplied from a 2-acre onsite stormwater management pond. The high-efficiency irrigation system consists primarily of subsurface dripline.
Solution
Ion Irrigation Management calculated the irrigation demand for the new TELUS World of Science and worked with the landscape architects (O2 Planning & Design) and stormwater engineers (Westhoff Engineering Resources) to balance the site water model. The irrigation system was installed by Rainmaker Landscaping & Irrigation of Calgary. The irrigation system is supplied from a 2-acre onsite stormwater management pond. The high-efficiency irrigation system consists primarily of subsurface dripline. A BaseStation 3200 Irrigation controller manages the 3” BHM hydrometer on the discharge main of a 75 USgpm @ 80psi VFD vertical-turbine pump feeding the 24 zone valves system of seven hydrozones equipped with 7 soil-moisture biSensors.
